The USEF is looking for volunteers to help at the USEF Dressage Selection Trials for the Olympics and specifically with the USADA Human Drug testing on June 29, 2008. Six adults who would be willing to help on Sunday, June 29th will be drug testing the dressage athletes after the trials.

Volunteers will act as a notifying chaperon for the riders. After the awards ceremony the individuals would need to approach the rider and escort them to the testing area. The individuals would need to be at the show grounds that morning/afternoon to meet with the USADA testers and familiarize themselves with the grounds. They would get a ticket of admission for that day.

The DASC Board of Directors is saddened upon the news of the tragic death of trainer Ricardo Amaya, long-time supporter and valued member. To assist the family, DASC has setup a Ricardo Amaya Fund, for those who feel inclined to send a brief note or donate funds to help his family during this time of need. The DASC Board of Directors will forward all donations, letters and thoughts to the family as they are received.

Dates established for May 17, 18; June 28, 29; July 26, 27 to be held at Terrie Woods property in Yucaipa, CA and session D1 to be held at Woodside Sept. 20, 21, 2008. 9-21 Demo riders will be required and video for review to become a demo rider will be requested. Demo riders will be needed 5/18, 6/28, 6/29, 7/26 and 7/27/2008.

Final approval for the program has been received from USDF. Fees set at $1150.00 per individual. Auditors will be welcome. Demo riders will be allowed to stay for the full day to audit the program at no charge. Please contact Peggy Hosking for more info at PeggyHosking at sbcglobal dot net.

CDS San Diego is happy to announce we are hosting a USDF L Program in 2008! This is an outstanding opportunity to further your dressage education. Whether you wish to become a dressage judge, or just learn more about what a judge is looking for, this is your chance!

The USDF L Program offers a comprehensive curriculum where participants and auditors can learn what trained judges are looking for in a dressage performance. This program covers Training level through Second level and will be taught by a faculty of experienced, USDF approved, United States Equestrian Federation recognized “S” judges.

The program is divided into 2 parts. Part 1 consists of Sessions A, B, C, and D1. Part 2 consists of Session D2 and the Examination. Upon successful completion of this program, an “L” graduate may apply to the USEF “r” program. Auditors are welcome and encouraged to attend the first three sessions; A, B, and C.

The dates for Part 1 are as follows:
* Session A March 8-9, 2008
* Session B April 5-6, 2008
* Session C May 10-11, 2008
* Session D1 June 14-15, 2008
The dates for Part 2 are as follows:
* Session D2 August 9-10, 2008
* Examination November 15-16, 2008

The locations for sessions A, B, C will be in Encinitas or San Marcos. The remaining sessions will take place at the Del Mar Horse Park. The fee for the 10 selected “L” program participants for Part 1 (sessions A, B, C, D1) is $1,050.00. The fee for Part 2 (sessions D2 and Examination) is $700.00. The auditor fee is $35.00 per day or $50.00 per weekend session. The pre-requisites for the L program are as follows:
* You must be a USDF member.
* You must have earned 3 scores of 60% or higher at 2nd level or above from 3 different USEF licensed judges.
* You must be willing to commit to attending all sessions of Part

PLEASE NOTE! This program is strictly limited to 10 participants and will be offered on a first come/first serve basis. Participant applications and dressage tests must be received by January 19, 2008 to be considered in the Program. The application can be downloaded from the CDS_SD website.

The USEF Dressage Committee would like to implement a system of rider qualifications through the dressage levels called "Performance Standards".

This system would apply for riders competing at 3rd Level and above beginning with 2010 competition year. It would require riders to obtain a specific number of points, based on scores of 60% or better, before they would be allowed to compete at 3rd level or higher. Points must be earned at USEF/USDF or FEI recognized competitions and riders must be a participating member of USEF. No qualification would be required for competing at Training, First and Second level.

This rule change is being voted on at the USEF January 2008 Convention. We encourage all DASC members to become informed and express their opinion to the USEF Dressage Committee.

DASC Board Member Lynn LaCaze and her husband are at the Del Mar race track with two of their four horses and their dogs. They are safe for now, but cannot go back to their residence to care for their other two horses just yet.

Jill Beltran is doing just fine. Her horse Waling and her niece's Halflinger pony have been living in her front yard in a corral made from a motorhome, a toy hauler, her truck and horse trailer, and her husband's truck and enclosed quad trailer.

IEL's first recognized shows are coming up and we need volunteers! The first Los Angeles/Ventura County show is October 27th at Hansen Dam. Please help us promote our sport to these new junior riders by volunteering at one of their shows to scribe, ring steward, score, or be a test runner. These are generally one-day shows. Any time you can donate would be great. Let's help these juniors qualify for the 2008 DASC Championships! Check your calendar against ours and let us know when you can help.

I would like to thank the staff and volunteers that made this show a great success. I could not have done it without you! I hope all of the competitors enjoyed their weekend and that everyone arrived back home safely. Thanks to the friends and family supporting the riders. The camaraderie among the competitors was fantastic--everywhere I looked there were smiles. Keep it up in 2008, and I'll see you at the next show!
